Working on Paint after ages!

Scribble. Scribble. Scribble. What better way to not waste time & still have fun! After ages I went back to Paint. Adobe Photoshop is cool I agree but Paint is where it all started & Paint is what we grew up with. It reminds me so much of my childhood where I would just sit in front of the computer on some lazy afternoons & making random scenery consisting often of a tree, a river, a few houses, some hills in the background & a super shiny sun. It was the same formula with different permutations & combinations. Here I just wanted to recreate that. I had lots of fun going back to those lazy afternoons. :)

Jack the Ripper

A letter by Jack the Ripper. We had to make it look the way it sounded. & we could only use 2 colors. Highlighting some parts & writing them with difference to catch the readers eye.

Typo Explorations with words

Two words, 'Association' & 'Celebration' were the words that I had chose to explore with typo. All we had to do was express the word with the word itself. Never had we done anything like this before. At first I, like others, came up with lame ideas but then with more & more explorations going down the drain I attained this.

Typo- Photo Film Final

As part of our typography course, we had to make a list of our favorite 100 films & using them we had to construct our own portrait. I was new to Photoshop, new to illustrator... trust me I can do much better than this now. Anyway this was what I finally managed at the end of the week.

Cinematography- 'Lemon Tree'

This film here was directed by 25 people including me. It was a course for cinematography & we were shooting on film for the first time ever. The song "Lemon Tree" was decided earlier & we had to make a sequence according to the song & what we thought the song was saying. It was a fairly clear song & almost all of us had the same kind of interpretation. In a span of 3 days, this is what we came up with.

I worked on this video in the pre-production & production stage when I was interning at the Electric Dreams Film Company from april 2011 to june 2011. This was the first time I had been part of a professional ad shoot.

Interactive Media- Web design

This video is just a preview. Since Blogspot doesn't support .swf files I had to compromise with this. The video is a walk-through of National Institute of Design, where I Study. It is an embedded video with options the user can click on. The video is in third person view with the guy in the video is the user. We tried designing it as a game. Through the video the user will get to choose what he/she wants to do For eg. the user has a choice of Pepsi, Slice or 7UP at the canteen. The user can click on the option & the guy in the video will buy that. It was a completely experimental thing we tried doing. Something we had never tried our hands on before.

This was part of a course 'Interactive Media' which was part of our 4th semester curriculum. It was a fun course since we got to know a lot about the interactive advertisements going on around the world. We saw a lot of creative advertisements, art displays & other kind of things that left you baffled & hungry for more. They called it the new way of getting attention! We were introduced to websites which let to were high on interactiveness. Also we played a lot. Games like 'The Settlers of Catan' had us hooked on to the course. People who hated going to class were seen attending it with much enthusiasm. Then we were introduced to a completely new experience with Nintendi Wii. It was recently launched then & not available in India, but thanks to our faculty, we got to play with it. This course was a complete break from the monotony of a students life.
Lastly we got to try our hands on web design using Adobe Flash software. It was pretty hardcore at the beginning but as we caught up, it became simpler by the minute. We also had a lot of guest faculties who introduced us to other parts of interactive media.

Kora...

This film is a work of fiction made as a part of my 2nd project in NID. The fiction script I had posted months back went on to be made as a film & was named "Kora..." meaning blank. The whole idea of the name was the fact that the woman (protagonist) in the film after going through a lot of difficulties in life felt nothing at the end of the ordeal.There was no sense of joy or humiliation....just plain numbness.

The script was written as part of a course we had in our 5th semester. I have tried to stick to the original script as much as I could. A few changes have been made though while shooting.

Kid Brother

 

Most of you must have had experiences of fighting or quarelling with your siblings, But not me. I have been blessed with an immensely cool brother. It's usually the younger ones who tend to get on the older ones nerves but in my case it's completely opposite. I am the one who makes him mad rather. I mean i try. he seldom gets angry & well when he does, God save me. This is my kid brother, Arijit, when he got promoted from nursery to Prep. The school arranged a convocation ceremony just for the same. He looked damn cute on that day. On the eve of Raksha Bandhan, this goes to all those amzing moments we used to have as kids & still do. I'm honored to have you as my brother. lotsa love kiddo! :D

Mermaid

My first experience with a pen-tablet. I was just drawing random lines, when I noticed a slight outline of a mermaid reveal itself. I decided to work on it further & here I'm with the final sketch. it's not much but I'm proud of it nevertheless.

Fiction Script

A 30 year old woman takes charge of her life when her husband wavers from his marital duty.

Madhu Shah was born into a Gujarati family in Kolkata on 13^th December 1970. She was a shy kid.

Madhu: 30 yr old woman

ACT-1

FADE IN

INT. KITCHEN- NIGHT

Pressure cooker whistles. MADHU (30) removes the pressure cooker from the stove. She is wearing a sari. She looks towards RAJAN (32) sitting on the Sofa staring at the TV. Then goes back to cooking.

MADHU

(Shouting)

Khana lagne waala hai, kum se kum table to saaf kar hi sakte ho!

She looks up again to see RAJAN still sitting on the sofa. She shakes her head & walks towards the dining table.

The table is scattered with toys. She picks them up one by one & keeps them aside. She sets the plates & bowls on the table.

A cell phone rings. She takes it out from her purse & receives the call.

MADHU

Hello.

Haan sir kal subah-subah aapko woh documents aapke table par mil jaayenge.

Yes Sir. Goodnight.

She walks back towards the kitchen when she stumbles upon another toy lying on the floor. She sighs, picks it up & puts it in the same place where she had put the other toys.

CUT TO.

INT. DINING ROOM- NIGHT

MADHU & RAJAN eating. MADHU looks up from time to time to see RAJAN playing with the food. She gets irritated.

MADHU

(Irritated)

Duniya mein tum pehle insaan nahi ho jisne kuch khoya hai.

Maine bhi bahut kuch khoya hai zindagi mein lekin main tumhare tarah haar maanke nahi baithi hoon.

RAJAN looks up from his plate, stares at MADHU & then goes back to playing with the food. MADHU opens her mouth to say something when the door bell rings.

MADHU

(Muttering)

Ab darwaza bhi mujhe hi kholna padega.

UMESH (48) smiles & enters the house in a hurry.

UMESH

(Excited)

Aap logon ne news dekha?

Train mein mare jaane waale yaatriyon ke parivar waalon ko sarkar 1 lakh ka muafza de rahi hai.

Jaldi news channel lagaao.

MADHU looks towards RAJAN & smiles. RAJAN purses his lips, pushes his plate away from him angrily & leaves the house in a huff.

MADHU stares after him.

UMESH

(gingerly)

Ummm...bhabi ye TV kya aapne naya khareeda hai?

MADHU

Jee nhi! Ye TV aapne pehle bhi dekha hai, kyun aap mera waqt barbaad kar rahe hain? Mujhe dher saara kaam hai. Namaste.

MADHU closes the door on UMESH’s face.

FADE OUT.

ACT-2

FADE IN.

INT. ROOM- DAY (MORNING)

MADHU making phone calls one after the other.

CUT TO.

INT. ROOM- DAY(AFTERNOON)

RAJAN with his eyes closed. Camera pans to reveal his dead body lying on the floor. MADHU is crying silently near him.

CUT TO.

NITISH enters the house. MADHU looks towards him with tears in her eyes. NITISH comes towards her, sits down near her. Both keep quiet for 2 minutes. NITISH looks towards her.

NITISH

Woh bracelet jo maine tumhe diya tha kya woh ab bhi tumhare paas hai?

MADHU looks startled.

MADHU

(weeping)

Please yahaan se chale jaao Nitish. Please.

NITISH frowns & leaves her alone.

FADE OUT.

FADE IN.

EXT. GARDEN- DAY (EVENING)

MADHU (18) is crying. NITISH (22) is looking towards her in disgust.

NITISH

(Angrily)

Tumhe kya laga sanjay se badla lene k liye

 tum mujhse pyaar ka jhoota naatak karogi

aur mujhe pata nhi chalega?

Pata h kya…tum kisi ke layak nhi ho.

NITISH takes away the bracelet from MADHU’s hand & throws it away. He walks a few paces, looks back at MADHU.

Ab tumhari zindagi mein na sanjay raha na main.

He leaves. MADHU weeps.

FADE OUT.

FADE IN.

INT. ROOM- DAY (AFTERNOON)

MADHU walks towards VIKAS (78), sits down near him & weeps.

VIKAS

(Exasperated)

Ab kya hoga tera? Teri to kismat hi phuti hai. Kabhi bhala hua hai tere saath kalmuhi? Chalo ek taraf se achchha hi hua ab tera kharcha bach jaayega. Safed sari hi to pehenni hai tujhe.

FADE OUT.

EXT. BUS STOP- DAY (NOON)

MADHU (12) & MADHAV (10) are sitting at the bus stop. MADHAV is very fidgety while MADHU is sitting quietly at one corner of the seat. Both look up.

VIKAS riding on a scooter comes towards them. He stops in front of them. MADHAV runs towards him excitedly. MADHU gets up slowly & walks towards him.

VIKAS

(Rudely)

Ab kya tumhe invitation dena padega jaldi aane ke liye?

MADHU goes & sits on the back of the scooter. MAHESH sits on the front. Camera follows the scooter.

MADHAV

(Enthusiastically)

Papa, pata hai aaj kya hua? Aaj na piyush ne class mein

Priya ka tiffin kha liya aur fir.... (sound fades out)

MADHU keeps staring forward without a smile on her face.

FADE OUT.

FADE IN.

INT. ROOM- NIGHT

MADHU sitting at a corner weeping. She looks up towards the cupboard. She gets up & walks towards it. She opens the door to reveal all beautiful saris inside. She touches them one by one feeling the texture.

She looks right to see a bunch of white pressed saris on the bed. She cringes. She walks towards them, picks pne up & crumbles it.

FADE OUT.

ACT 3

FADE IN.

INT. ROOM- DAY (MORNING)

MADHU standing in front of the mirror. She is wearing a very pretty sari. She puts on make-up & wears jewellery.

MADHU

Rishi! Tum taiyaar ho gaye? School ke liye late ho raha hai.

Aaj jaana hai ya phir bahane banana hai?

RISHI (6) runs into the room wearing a school dress.

RISHI

Mummy main to kab ka taiyaar ho gaya hoon.

MADHU smiles at him.

MADHU

To chalein?

FADE OUT TO BLACK.
